THERMOFISHER,
CELL AND GENE THERAPY
Thermo Fisher Scientific is an American supplier of scientific instrumentation, reagents and consumables, and software services. They are a driving force in the research, healthcare, industrial and applied markets, generating approximately $35 billion in annual revenue.
BRIEF
Cell therapy and gene therapy are overlapping fields of biomedical research and treatment. Both therapies aim to treat, prevent, or potentially cure diseases, and both approaches have the potential to alleviate the underlying cause of genetic diseases and acquired diseases.
In recent light of the covid-19 outbreak, Themofisher’s research is a valuable asset to the scientific community. The brief was to create a hub that allowed researcher too easily find resources that are related to their specific field.
WIRE-FRAMES
Together with Thermofishers web development team, we co-created new templates for their content library’s. This took a few rounds of wireframes due to the size of the Thermofisher website there was many restrictions.
We eventually came to a 3 page structure, segmenting content via an Overview page, Cell page and Gene page, then the user can either scroll or use the anchor links to locate content types that suit their needs.
In the beginning of the process, the Themofisher team wanted some content to be gated, and requested that we design a way that the user to be able to see which is gated before clicking.
We advised against this, as many content hubs have gated content, but do not show that they are gated until the go to the individual content page, where it will usually ask you to sign in or register to view.
We did however give them some options of icons and different ways we could make the user aware some content is gated, they decided to go with not showing which content is gated.
We also created a word/character count for the thumbnails, so when they create new content, the size of the thumbnails won’t have to change due to too much text.
DESIGN
The design doesn’t stray far from the clinical natural of Thermofisher. We incorporated more whitespace than they normally would, to allow the content to breath, while also helping the user scan content easily without getting distracted/overwhelmed.
The banners at the top of the page where created for another project for Cell and Gene therapy earlier in the year, we added to this by distinguishing a visual difference between Cell & GeneTherapy, Cell Therapy and Gene Therapy, each page has its own unique Cell or Gene.
